چکیده

This paper addresses the coupled tasks of constructing a spatial representation of the environment with a mobile robot using noisy sensors (sonar) and using such a map to determine the robot's position. The map is not meant to represent the actual spatial structure of the environment so much as it is meant to represent the major structural components of what the robot \sees". This can, in turn, be used to construct a model of the physical objects in the environment. One problem with such an approach is that maintaining an absolute coordinate system for the map is di cult without periodically calibrating the robot's position. We demonstrate that in a suitable environment it is possible to use sonar data to correct position and orientation estimates on an ongoing basis. This is accomplished by incrementally constructing and updating a model-based description of the acquired data. Given coarse position estimates of the robot's location and orientation, these can be re ned to high accuracy using the stored map and a set of sonar readings from a single position. This approach is then generalized to allow global position estimation, where position and orientation estimates may not be available. We consider the accuracy of the method based on a single sonar reading and illustrate its region of convergence using empirical data.

Sensor-Fused Navigation and Manipulation from a Planetary Rover

This paper describes the development of advanced rover navigation and manipulation techniques for use by NASA's Sample Return Rover. These techniques include an algorithm for estimating the change in the rover's position and orientation by registering successive range maps from the rover's hazard avoidance stereo camera pair and the fusion of this information with the rover's wheel odometry. Th...

Iranian Permanent GPS Network Receivers Differential Code Biases Estimation Using Global Ionospheric Maps

Measurements of the dual frequency Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers can be used to calculate the electron density and the total electron content (TEC) of the ionosphere layer of the Earth atmosphere. TEC is a key parameter for investigating the ongoing spatial and temporal physical process of the ionosphere. For accurate estimation of TEC from GPS measurements, GPS satellites and GPS r...

RFSOM - Extending Self-Organizing Feature Maps with Adaptive Metrics to Combine Spatial and Textural Features for Body Pose Estimation

In this work we propose an online approach to compute a more precise assignment between parts of an upper human body model to RGBD image data. For this, a Self-Organizing Map (SOM) will be computed using a set of features where each feature is weighted by a relevance factor (RFSOM). These factors are computed using the generalized matrix learning vector quantization (GMLVQ) and allow to scale t...

Evaluation of Pose Hypotheses by Image Feature Extraction for Vehicle Localization

For the realization of driving assistance and safety systems vehicles are being increasingly equipped with sensors. As these sensors contribute a lot to the cost of the whole package and at the same time consume some space, car manufacturers try to integrate applications that make use of already integrated sensors. This leads to the fact that each sensor has to fulfil several functions at once ...

Investigation of MODIS mission capability in tropospheric delay estimation for precise point positioning

Tropospheric delay is always considered as one of the factors limiting the accuracy of GPS. In this paper, the three-dimensional ray tracing technique is proposed to calculate the tropospheric delay. The ability of the MODIS mission to calculate the tropospheric delay is also examined. For this purpose, an area in central Europe was selected and a MODIS acquisition on 2008/08/01 was studied. In...
